Recently appointed as President of the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce in Miami, Mónica Vázquez faces a dual challenge in her professional career. She must keep the Abanca expansion project in the United States alive while also working to strengthen the presence of Spanish companies in the country. The United States remains a key strategic ally when comes to bilateral ties and the Spanish busi- ness presence in Latin America. “The United States is the most competitive market in the world, and success here requires not only a high-quality project or product but also dedication and perseverance,” says Mónica Vázquez, CEO of ABANCA USA, in an interview with EfeComunica. —What have been the key milestones in your professional career? —I’ve been in thefinancial sector since the beginning of my career, and for the past 10 years, I’ve been with ABANCA, leading various projects and supporting the bank and its clients in their growth and development. I’ve held positions of responsibility in the retail and corporate segments, including leading the Personal Banking project from its inception, participating in integration and acquisition proj- ects, and since 2019, overseeing the opening and expansion of the bank in the United States, where we have achieved excellent results. —What does your appointment as President of the Chamber mean for your professional career? —It represents a significant opportunity to continue the outstanding work the Chamber of Commerce has been doing for over 40 years. This Chamber is the largest bilateral Chamber of Commerce in the coun- try, serving as a vital connection between Spain, the United States, and Latin America. I’m very proud and grateful that business lead- ers have placed their trust in me to lead this project in the coming years, and I take on this responsibility with great determination.
